International Jewellery London and The Goldsmiths’ Centre have announced that they will have an official partnership for this year’s show. The sponsorship agreement will focus on providing invaluable support for exhibiting designers. This includes using The Goldsmiths’ Centre as the venue for the IJL Exhibitor Summer Masterclasses on June 15, when inspiring industry leaders will provide mentorship and guidance on getting the most out of IJL’s unique networking, PR and marketing opportunities. Grants of up to £5,000 are being offered for 'ambitious learning experiences' as part of the Career Catalyst initiative, offered by the Goldsmiths' Centre, with support from the Goldsmiths' Company Charity and the Radcliffe Trust.  The idea was inspired by former Goldsmiths' Company Apprentice, award-winning jeweller and engraver Castro Smith, whose 2018 travels to Japan have informed and enhanced his recent work. Eileen Gatt Transforms Former Black Isle Post Office Into Ethical Jewellery Centre

The small village of Munlochy, on the Black Isle, is set to be at the forefront of Scotland’s drive to become a world leader in ethical jewellery making and silversmithing. Eileen Gatt has recently given up her Edinburgh studio in order to transform the former post office, a few miles from Inverness, into a centre for ethical making and design. Guðbjörg Kristín Ingvarsdóttir is a goldsmith, Jewellery designer and co-founder of the award-winning sustainable jewellery brand Aurum, Iceland's leading jewellery brand. Hazel Thorn's delicate and intricate works bear resemblance to shards of colourful, patterned eggshells. Her work in mixed-metal silversmithing has taken an interesting turn this year, after placements on an internship scheme run by the Goldsmiths’ Centre. The Goldsmiths’ Company's Studio Internship Graduate Award ( SIGA ), open to recent graduates - within five years of graduation - aims to enhance the skills of the next generation of silversmiths.  Recipients are given the opportunity to train with the country’s leading silversmiths and receive funding to exhibit new work at a Goldsmiths’ Centre group show from 5-12 September 2017. The current SIGA recipients are Patrick Davison, Hamish Dobbie, Errin Quinn and Dominic Simon. IKEA Bootcamp Accelerator for Start Ups Organised by IKEA A three-month Sweden-based accelerator programme for start-ups from anywhere in the world that are creating solutions to everyday problems. Craft Central moves to The Forge, Isle of Dogs

Craft Central have announced that they have taken a twenty-year lease on The Forge,  Westferry  Road, Isle of Dogs, bringing back design and making to this area of traditional industry after  leases on the  Clerkenwell  buildings come to an end. Since 1980 Craft Central have been supporting craftsmanship and craftspeople from two Victorian buildings in  Clerkenwell , a traditional centre for craft. SIGA The Goldsmiths’ Company 2017 Studio Internship Graduate Award         About the Award A Goldsmiths’ Company award open to two graduates (within 5 years of graduation) to support the next generation of silversmiths. The award offers the opportunity to train with the country’s leading silversmiths for 16 weeks (which can be undertaken on a part time basis) before creating an exhibition of work at the Goldsmiths’ Centre.
